The Suzies field hockey team is currently 5-0, with wins against Northbridge, Quabbin, Notre Dame, Hopedale, and Medway. The team has led three out of these five games with a three or more goals lead. By doing this, they will improve their Power Rankings, which will help them especially later in the season.
What are the Power Rankings? They are rankings which get based off the results submitted to Arbiter Sports by each team. As the season goes on, teams enter the tournament, all hoping to make it to the finals. Last season, Sutton was ranked 4th and made it to the Final Four game. Typically, they get released about 3-4 weeks after the season starts. Once they’re out, be sure to check out Sutton’s Power Rankings.
This year the team is made up of the same girls as it was last year, plus some new freshmen, due to the fact that they didn’t lose any senior players last season. The team is very well-bonded and gets along very well.
Below is an interview with head coach, Sarah Bellavance.
What are your goals for this season?
“We start with the conference and try to win that. We want to make it to the CMASS tournament. We also want to get a good seeding in the power rankings. The only way to do that is to take it one game at a time.”
How do you want this season to compare to last season?
“We want to make it back to the state semi. I want the same excitement and genuine teammate love that we had last season. We’ll rely on that to accomplish small goals.”
How do you feel the past four games have gone in relation to your goals?
“I think we are working out the kinks with every new season. We’re still trying to find our groove even with so many returning players. We’ve had highs and lows so far, but have managed to pull out a win in all 4.”
