Mr. Pasceri is a new teacher at Sutton High School. I interviewed him to help the student body get to know him better.
What inspired Mr. Pasceri to become a teacher? He was always good at math and wanted to help others succeed. He started tutoring students in math which is something he enjoyed very much. Then he started to substitute teach and it went very well. He understood the math and felt as if he could do this full time. He did not know if he could work with kids, but after working at a school it was an enjoyable experience for him! Mr. Pasceri likes teaching because he feels that it keeps him young.
Although he has worked in schools for thirteen years, this is his tenth year teaching. He taught nine years at Millbury High School and now in his first year at Sutton. At Millbury, he taught AP Calculus, Algebra, and other math-related courses. He mentions he really likes Calculus. The reason for this being that he feels as if Calculus is the class that ties everything together. The connection of all the previous math courses come together in Calculus.
Mr. Pasceri is into music! He plays two instruments, the guitar and piano, as well as singing and being included with music at his church. Music is a passion of his and he enjoys constantly listening to music. It inspires him to continue to play.
He would be interested in teaching Business or Finance if not teaching math. Although he lacks knowledge about History, he feels as if the storytelling within the story is very interesting. The teacher he had in the past made him love this aspect of history class.
When asked about advice to give to students about becoming a teacher, he had this to say. Teaching is harder than you think, but more rewarding than you think.
An important aspect of teaching is the relationships formed with it. Whether it is with the students or the staff members, it all has a basis of that. A huge part of teaching is also entertainment. “You have to entertain kids a little bit to educate them.” He describes this as harder than it sounds because it all comes from personality and connection. Also being a very organized person is important. There is a lot to being a teacher, so these are just some of the parts.
Fun Fact! He has two daughters, three and four years old, and they have really long hair. His job is to brush and take care of their hair. He can do a regular braid and a French braid. Mr. Pasceri is working on perfecting the French braid and Dutch braid.
One of the first things he would buy if he won the lottery is a heated, inground pool. His wife loves to swim and he likes to swim as well for exercise. It would be great for the whole family to enjoy.
When asked for any final words to share, he left us with a quote that he always tells his calculus class:
