Sutton Girls Varsity Soccer has started off their season with a bang! With a 10-1 record, there has been a lot of hard work, determination, and team chemistry. I interviewed my coach, Jensen Shipp, with questions about how he thinks the team is doing.
“What are our strengths of this season?”
“The strengths on the field for our team is we are dangerous with the ball and have multiple ways to create chances and score goals. Defensively, we are strong in the air, preventing teams from getting into the space behind us. Most importantly, there is a strong sense of togetherness in everything this team does to lift each other up and push us forward in difficult moments and games”
“How do you think our performance is so far?”
“I think this team has proven with their performances that they are up there with the very best teams in Central Mass. Our goal is to be the best. The performances have been very good and the players should take pride in that. Within that, I think we are a few small details away from proving we can be even more dominant in each and every performance and that is where we will continue to strive to get to.”
“What makes us stand out from other teams?”
“Togetherness and ability. There is a sense from each and every player that they want to see the player next to them and the team succeed. While that may seem like an obvious want of a team, it does not exist everywhere. We have a lot of very good players who have dedicated so much time to the sport over their years as youth players to get to the level they are at now. That’s years of taking ownership of their development and sacrificing a lot for the sake of becoming a better soccer player to achieve their goals within the sport.”
Overall, this team has achieved many milestones but, from the sounds of it, they aren’t done yet!
