In the upcoming and already eventful 2024 United States Presidential Election, both major party candidates have been frequently accused of being coy, vague, or even outright ignoring various issues. Trump calls wars such as the War in Iraq pointless bloodshed while pointing out his work in improving the VA, including introducing VA Accountability and VA Choice, and also firing 11,500 federal workers who Trump saw as failing to give veterans adequate care. He also secured an increase in funding for telehealth services and suicide prevention services for veterans. He claims that veteran homelessness reduced under him, while employment and educational access increased under him as well. He proposes to build on what he achieved in his first Administration. Trump’s running mate, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio is a USMC veteran, who served for 4 years. Harris points out that her running mate, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota served 24 years in the Minnesota Army National Guard. Furthermore, while she was the Attorney General of California, she repeatedly defended veterans from being defrauded. Harris also says the Biden Administration has seen burn pit and Agent Orange victims getting increased health coverage. While Walz was in Congress he was a leading advocate for veteran suicide prevention legislation. Harris is proposing to increase funding for veteran suicide prevention services, mental health services, and economic and employment opportunities.
