In the upcoming and already eventful 2024 United States Presidential Election, both major party candidates have been frequently accused of being coy, vague, or even outright ignoring various issues. The recent Presidential debate has been cited by the media as physical evidence of the candidates doing exactly that. However, with extensive research, both candidates’ positions can be coherently discovered. Seeing as it’s (probably) a good idea to know a candidate’s position on the issues before you vote for them or not, I researched and compiled their positions for you.
Foreign Policy
Now, for one of the main topics of this entire election, Foreign Policy. Harris advocates for an active foreign policy that focuses on countering Russian influence in Eastern Europe and continuing to aid Ukraine economically, militarily, and diplomatically until the conclusion of the War in Ukraine. She also supports the strengthening of defenses in Taiwan and opposing China both militarily and economically, however nevertheless she sees Russia as the greater threat. In terms of Israel, specifically with the War in Gaza and the recent Invasion of Southern Lebanon, she believes that Israel has a right to defend itself, however, she also believes that a ceasefire should be made as soon as possible, and deplores the suffering of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians, most being women and children. While Harris sees Russia as the main threat, Trump sees China as the true threat. He believes this because of China’s increasing encroachment on islands in the Pacific and Taiwan, along with economic competition with the United States. He thinks that aid to Ukraine should be cut off, and has said that he’d work out a peace deal on day one of his second Presidency. He is a staunch supporter of Israel, and he doesn’t believe a ceasefire is in order, though he did encourage Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister to end the war as soon as possible.
