What are seed oils?
Seed oils are oils removed from the seeds of certain plants. They are widely used in baking, cooking, salad dressings, and packaged snacks.
People may think that a diet including seed oils is healthy, but these oils have caused to bad conditions. They have mainly caused eczema, weight gain, and inflammation.
The eight most common industrial toxic seeds are: canola, corn, cottonseed, soy, sunflower, safflower, grapeseed, and rice barn.
These seeds have also been the cause of asthma and autoimmune diseases. Additionally, they contribute to cognitive and mental health issues such as: depression, anxiety, cognitive decline, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and obesity, heart disease, gut health issues such as IBD and IBS, infertility, macular degeneration and osteoarthritis.
Most canola seeds are extracted using a solvent called hexane, where heat is often applied which affects the stability of the oils molecules by spoiling it. This destroys the Omega-3s in it and can create trans fats. Trans fats have been the reason to many health problems and should be avoided.
High consumption of corn seeds or reusing them for frying can lead to health issues such as obesity and gut problems. Pay attention to how much heat is being applied by using a thermometer to make sure it’s not overheating.
Soybean seed oils are a proven factor in neurological disease. This is associated with: ADHD, depression, anxiety, dementia, seizures, and other mental health issues. They have also caused bloating, pain, colitis, and diverticulitis.
Sunflower seeds can be dangerous if overheated because toxic compounds can be released. The problem of the increase in inflammation after consuming too many sunflower seeds is called oleic acid. Oleic acid is often considered a healthy fat, but consuming too much can lead to negative effects. It can negatively affect your heart health and can lead to heart failure.
Safflower seed oils biggest concern is the high Omega-6 content from linoleic acid. A diet high in linoleic acid from safflower oil can increase oxidized LDL cholesterol in adults with diabetes. It can negatively impact cardiovascular health markers like blood pressure and atherosclerotic lesion formation.
A better safflower alternative is avocado oil, which provides the same utility without the inflammatory consequences.
Grapeseed is considered healthy but similar to sunflower seeds it should be consumed in moderation. A small serving of grapeseed oil is about 120 calories. Too much consumption of grapeseed oil can lead to the risk of health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, heart diseases, high blood pressure, stroke and cancer.
The risk of cancer from grapeseed oils is not low, as it contains compounds called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons which have caused cancer in animals before.
Rice bran can lead to digestive system problems such as bloating and stomach aches when consumed in large amounts. It can cause allergic reactions like sin rashes, itching, or even having a hard time breathing. It also has been known to have compounds that can slightly lower blood pressure.
These seeds oils are okay to consume but always be cautious. To reduce the amount of seed oils you consume, eat fewer ultra processed foods.
