Today is Thanksgiving, I would like to take the time to reflect on what I am thankful for and what life would be like without those blessings.
I begin with the musts, of course–we should be thankful for our friends and families and our houses. Now, let us talk about the less obvious…
To reflect, we must start in the environment that enables these blessings to exist, the United States. We should be grateful to live in this country, even though it does have some issues.
We should be thankful our country is a stocked and maintained place with constant resupplies of food and necessities on every product imaginable. We take for granted the United States’ vast shipping lanes and cargo import system and that without them we would fail.
Now, think locally. We should be thankful for the places of retail: Market 32, Goretti’s, Market Basket, Walmart, and Target. We should realize the impact these places have on us and how without them we would suffer. We should be thankful for our town and the chances it gives us, our school, and even our Center Store.
What about the police and fire departments that keep us safe and our town hall where our town is managed? During storms, the power line workers are always ready to restore power to us 24/7 and our plumbers and electricians work tirelessly to ensure the smooth flow of our society.
We should be thankful for every worker in the education system who is tasked with educating the next generation and healthcare workers who are always there to serve our medical needs from the beginning to the end. We should be thankful for a stable government, whether we agree or do not agree with the politics, some smart individuals run the government and we should be grateful for that.
Whenever the need arises, we have a vast and successful global and domestic aviation network that has made transportation very simple and painless. Our selection of vehicles to rent and buy is one of the largest in the world. We should be thankful for the mechanics, engineers, and inventors who work on and invent new methods of transportation and new technology.
We should be thankful for access to electronics and WiFi, smart boards, heaters, and air conditioners. Cars, buses, and a highway to drive them on. Clean water and efficient methods to collect it. Access to new clothing and footwear.
These are only a couple of the things the world should be thankful for and reflect on today.
There are countless of other days to think about the small things. Today, think of five things that you are grateful for and the impact on your life from those things. Be thankful.
