Movies
Despicable Me 4:
Rated: PG
- Gwyn rating: 4/10
The movie has a good cast: Sophia Vergara, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, and Joey King. The plot was not there, and was less noticeable as the directors tried to throw in a lot of jokes with not much to give. Music within the film was lovely, giving a lot of needed character to the characters. The most notable songs from the film was the old classic, Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Fears and Tears, and the viral Tik Tok hit, Double Life by Pharell Williams.
Inside Out 2:
Rated: PG
- Gwyn rating: 7/10
Bringing back the original story, this movie was well executed. The movie cast mostly stayed the same other than the added new stars; Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebri, Adele Exarchoplous, and Paul Walter Houser. The depiction of emotions were accurate, and showed the struggles one may have growing up. The plot was developed, but left a lot to question when it came to the depiction of a real student.

It doesn’t use much of the actual words from the books, but the plot and most of storyline is precise. The movies are decent, and on their own are great dystopian films. TV- Shows
The Good Place:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 8/10
This show is about the afterlife and living in a place called the good place. I have seen all seasons, and though predictable, it’s still a fairly good show. Just watch and enjoy, and don’t anticipate. If you’re an analytical person, this show might not be for you. The jokes and acting are very good. It stars Kristian Bell, Manny Jacinto, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, and Ted Danson with Maya Rudolph as a guest star.
How I Met Your Mother:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 10/10
This is a feel good show about the main character, Ted, and how he tells his children the story of how he met their mother looking back, on his late 20’s in the early 2000’s with his four friends. Personally, I loved the show as it was very insightful and used morals and ethics throughout the series. Once you’ve watch the first season or so, it is easy to jump into the show at any time.
The Office:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 10/10
Having Steve Carrell and a lot of other comedians, this light hearted show is one for the books. Some of the actors were originally writers for the show. This show is authentic and the characters are pulled from real life people as the characters can be found in a lot of work places.
The Resident:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 9/10
This hospital drama is a mix of light and dark themes, having many complex characters. Definitely an addictive show that really gets you invested in these characters. I loved trying to figure out how things were going to play out in each episode, which can always lead to surprises.
Seinfeld:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 6/10
A 90’s comedy show about three friends and a wacky neighbor that have new situations and issues every episode. This includes more dry and less modern humor, and is very creative. Every now and again, I will watch this show but it’s never something I got super interested in.
Smallville:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 7/10
An early 2000’s show that follows the comics of Superman’s upbringing. It’s a good show that dives into the good and evil of a person, which characters toggle with. I liked the acting and how the writers took the bad guy twisting perspectives. A good supernatural watch…
The OC:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 5/10
This show is a coming of age story about this guy, Ryan, who gets adopted by a rich family in Beverly Hills. He meets new people, and has to deal with having a new brother. The series had a few good characters, which I only got to part way of season 2 of 4 and stopped watching. While many people love this show, it wasn’t for me.
One Tree Hill:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 7/10
A coming of age early 2000’s show that focuses on four teenagers and their lives with their friends. There’s basketball, drama, love, cheerleading, and music. I enjoyed the show as the plot was well done, and I had to keep watching for two of the characters.
White Collar:
Rated: TV-PG
- Gwyn rating: 9/10
This crime drama comedy series will have you on the edge of your seat. It follows an ex convict as he helps the FBI figure out crimes through theft, and forgery. I loved this show for it’s solid plot, and loveable characters.
Veronica Mars:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 10/10
Early 2000’s hit crime show, that follows a teenage girl who wants to become a detective like her father. She solves crimes while going to high school and sometimes changes her perspective. This is a good show to watch when you want to binge a good plot with cliffhangers.
Felicity:
Rated: TV- 14
- Gwyn rating: 7/10
This 90’s show is a coming of age story, about this girl, Felicity, that follows her crush from high school to college. She finds out that life is more than just one boy and turns her life around. I hated the main character, but loved one of the love interests. In my opinion, the main character was a crappy girlfriend and continuously kept things messy in her life.
Reba:
Rated: TV-PG
- Gwyn rating: 8/10
Reba, the famous country star, had a show in the early 2000’s named after her. She is the mother of three children in this delightful easy to watch comedy series. This is one where you can pick up from any place in the show and it’s light hearted.
Ugly Betty:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 9/10
This award winning show is one for the books as it defied societies previous shows with quirky characters and a fresh perspective on life and satire. It is a show about this woman, Betty Saurez, who is a Latinx American that is not the most modern dressing. She gets a job in the fashion world, which changes parts of Betty’s life forever.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine:
Rated: TV-14
- Gwyn rating: 10/10
This crime comedy is a good watch, about an NYPD unit that gets into shenanigans. I love all the characters and the way that team really works, a lot of the jokes are timed well too. Just throw on this show and grab some popcorn to have a good laugh…
