Twenty-one-year-old Tate McRae started by making YouTube videos of her singing and dancing. She now has a successful music career with over 8.8 billion streams, over 39 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and (as of September 2024) is ranked #80 most popular on Famous Birthdays.
Since the young age of 7, Tate has shown a strong passion for musical arts, such as acting, dancing, and, of course, singing. She currently sings pop music. She grew up dancing at her mother’s dance studio, Alberta Ballet School, in Calgary.
Tate was born in Calgary, Canada, and raised by her parents, Todd and Tanja. She has a twenty-three-year-old brother, Tucker McRae. Now, Tate lives in Los Angeles, California.
So far, Tate has written four albums, all the things i never said (2020), too young to be sad (2021), i used to think i could fly (2022), and her most recent, THINK LATER (2023). Despite being a short album of only five songs, all the things i never said is a great reminder to express yourself. In this album, Tate explains she is usually more reserved and introverted. Once she gets to know people, she says she is “an open book,” very honest and straight up, just like in her writing.
Next, her second album, too young to be sad, is really about what it says in the title. On this album, Tate recognizes she has to move on from her heartbreaks and live her life! It is also about realizing her mistakes, and improving for her future.
Her third album, i used to think i could fly, is about the hardships of growing up. As a young child, you are naïve, and unaware of the mean people there are out there.
Like i used to think i could fly, THINK LATER covers many topics about being a teenage girl. Breakups, fake friends, and finding out who you are as a person. THINK LATER is a pop-based album. At her THINK LATER concerts, her dancing style is usually Jazz and/or Hip-Hop.
On September 12, 2024, Tate released her single, It’s ok I’m ok. This new song was a great surprise for her millions of fans, on the edge of their seats, waiting for something new. Despite having many heartbreak songs, Tate wrote this song to her toxic ex’s girlfriend. “So, baby, don’t get this twisted / No, nothin’ could make me miss it / Take him, he’s yours.” She is happy that herself and “him” have broken up, and washes her hands of him. But, she also warns his current girlfriend of his habits and traits. She also says, “And she be like, ‘He’s so perfect’ / I be like, ‘Oh, what version?'” She wants everyone to know that he is not what he seems to be. Not everyone is the same as they appear on the outside.
Overall, Tate is loved by many people, especially teen girls. Her relatable content and catchy songs make it easy to enjoy her content. So, that’s Tate! Her albums, new song, and who she is as a person.
