What is it: A Town cleanup. An event of the Manchaug Pond Foundation, in collaboration with the Sutton High School CSL, and environmental clubs. The cleanup cleans up around the river shed of Manchaug Pond (which goes around Sutton, Uxbridge, and Douglas). The efforts are meant to clean up the streets and the area. There are supplied trash bags, trash pickers, vests, gloves, refreshments, and info will be given out at the desk. Community service hours can be obtained from this, up to 3. Additionally, all hours will be recorded and Manchaug Pong Foundation will be matched for 36.38$ per hour of service done, which adds to their budget (they specialize in environment and community).
Where: There will be a desk at the school itself from 9:00-12:00 pm and there will also be a desk at the Manchaug Pond boating dock at 22 Torrey Road in Sutton.
When: Saturday, October 26th from 9:00-12:00 pm. You don’t have to sign up beforehand, just show up.
Who: Anyone. There are a lot of CSL kids and a lot of environmental club kids who have contributed and will contribute. Additionally, some NHS kids are already committed to being there. But the magic is that anyone can do it, doing it yourself is fine, with friends can be fun, and with your family is great.
How: Just show up at the school at the main entrance (or to the public access boat ramp) and take all the necessary supplies and you will be told a place where you can go. Either when you stop beforehand or at noon, come back and return all of your supplies to the desk. If you want service hours, we will be writing down the hours and we will make sure to get them to you.
Why: If you’ve ever been on a walk, run, or bike ride in Sutton, I am sure you have seen trash on the side of the road. Manchaug Pond Association hosts this cleanup to help pick up trash for the pond to help the water quality in it and protect the ecosystem around it. I think it’s just a good opportunity to clean up and to help out.
