Meet the Candidates for Planning Board

SuttonHighNews conducted an interview with each candidate running for the Planning Board. Our goal is to provide a more comprehensive look at each candidate so voters can make an informed decision.

SuttonHighNews is not endorsing any candidate. The interviews are being released in a random order with no intent to give anyone more or less time.

All candidates were given the questions in advance. We asked the same questions, in the same order, to each candidate.

How do we create affordable housing in Sutton?

The Planning Board has a special permit for Accessory Dwelling Units that has worked well for approximately eight years. Recently, the state has implemented ADU rules that supersede town bylaws. I would like to work on a combination that would benefit the town and the residents.

What makes you qualified to be on the Planning Board? What skills/credentials do you bring? What motivated you to run?

I have lived in Sutton, MA for approximately ten years. Now that my kids are grown, I have the time to make a helpful and positive contribution to my community. I will be an asset to the existing board with my knowledge and experience.  I have been in the construction, home building, and site work industries for over thirty years. I have extensive knowledge on site planning, drainage, and wetland bylaws. I am qualified to give helpful and significant input on site plan reviews and housing development projects. I am a licensed construction (unrestricted) supervisor, licensed home improvement contractor, licensed Title V septic installer, and licensed drain layer.

What are your goals for Sutton? Where do you want to see Sutton by the end of your term? In five years? In ten years?

My goals are to keep the current zoning bylaws that exist to maintain Sutton’s rural character. I will support more commercial development in the business areas. The state is mandating more affordable housing so I would assist by reviewing proposed changes and ensure the implementation will work toward the goals of the community.

What are your priorities should you win?

My priorities would be to listen to the townspeople’s input and concerns and review plans to ensure that the town’s plans are in the best interest of the community.

Message to the voters.

I understand the planning board’s responsibilities and am very familiar with the zoning bylaws.  I would be a good asset to the existing Sutton planning board and would appreciate your vote!
