Homecoming, as we all know, is one of the most chaotic, exciting, fun weeks throughout the school year. From the sports games, to the spirit days, to the pep rally, to the dance, we all look forward to it. Fortunately for us, we are never let down by the outcome of this unforgettable week.
Spirit week was a blast this year (if you could not already tell from the extensive amount of photos) and the themed days were a big hit! Student council hit us with a new theme and several returning. Starting off the week on Monday we had ‘Adam Sandler Day’, Tuesday was ‘Twin Day’, Wednesday was ‘Anything but a Backpack’, Thursday was ‘Country vs. Country Club’, and to finish off the week on Friday we had a Sutton spirit day.
While Sutton students have quite a lot of spirit already, there was a little bit of motivation behind this Spirit Week. Student Council was smart enough to bribe a Dunkin’ Donuts breakfast to whichever class had the most spirit. Last year there was a bit of competition between the Class of ’24 and ’22. The Class of ’24 gave the 2022 Seniors a run for their money last year with winning the a several of the spirit weeks, Halloween dress-up day, and the end-of year-mini Olympics. We all had the predictions that “our class is gonna win” but the Class of ’23 came out of this spirit week with a win that included not only bragging rights but the Dunkin’ breakfast.
The Seniors did win the spirit week, however, there was still plenty more to win following that.
We all know the infamous pep rally and games that come the Friday of homecoming week and, once again, Student Council out did themselves with all of the events they had for us. An extensive list of activities included: gator ball, musical chairs, tic-tac-toe race, knock out, table race, arm wrestling, marshmallow toss, three-legged race, baton race, obstacle race, and tug of war. Of all of these activities the Seniors came out of it with another win!
Yes, while spirit week and the pep rally is fun and all but everyone is antsy for what is to come over the weekend. This year the games were spread between Friday afternoon through Saturday. Friday included the Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country Meet vs. Whitinsville Christian, Girls’ JV and Varsity Volleyball against Whitinsville Christian, and Boys’ Varsity Football against Bartlett. Following Friday, on Saturday, Boys’ and Girls’ JV and Varsity Soccer against Nipmuc and Girls’ JV and Varsity Field Hockey were held. Every Sutton sport made us proud with their effort and success! We are all so proud of our town for taking the ‘W’s this weekend and it will never be forgotten.
