In the annual tradition of football and Thanksgiving, the day before students headed to vacation featured the seniors and juniors girls facing off in a flag football game.
Much like last year, the game seemed to end without any true drama. Thanks to stout defense and four interceptions (Kaila Wheeler with one and Maddie Nunnemacher with three) and two touchdowns by Ava Magnuson, the seniors held a 13-0 lead late into the fourth quarter.
Then, the juniors caught fire. Courtney Clemens threw a tight spiral to Lea Lamoreaux for the first junior touchdown. Then, with just a minute left, Clemens ran around the end, tip toed down the sidelines and in for a touchdown to make the score 13-12. The extra point pass was deflected and the seniors were able to run the clock out to preserve their win.
The seniors won last year on Alison DaSilva’s amazing catch at the buzzer and will leave SHS undefeated. The juniors have a year to fix what happened and return next year to possibly earn a victory before the graduate.
A special thanks to the student council and their advisers for hosting and organizing, to Mr. Bilica and Mr. Stamos for officiating, and to the fans for their positive spirit.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
