Why is animal print so popular when it comes to fashion? Leopard print is definitaly the most trending pattern of the moment, but snake skin and cheetah print are close behind.
Leopard print came into fashion around the 1950’s and was seen on designer bags and on cat walks. At this same time the first leopard print bathing suit was worn down the cat walk.
Some say that the leopard look is trashy and over done, some others say it is an iconic and classic look that can be worn forever. It is shown to be classy when seen on red carpets or at top notch events.
Some celebrities that have worn leopard print or do wear leopard print include Kate Moss who has always been in touch with the print and wore a leopard coat to her 30th birthday party and Paris fashion week in September of 2019.
Rihanna wore a statement-making leopard piece to her friend’s birthday party. This article claimed she showed excitement about the revival of leopard. She has also been seen wearing a long leopard dress to her own Visual Autobiography Launch in October of 2024. Harry Styles wore a leopard piece to Burberry’s Spring 2014 runway event.
Leopard print did fall out but definitely came back very hard around the 2000’s. It is said that this print represents luxury, confidence, and power.
My opinion: I love leopard print. I think it is such a statement piece that should continue to grow. I saw many cheetah/leopard costumes on Halloween that involved fashion piece with leopard prints.
Leopard print is likely to remain popular because it has evolved into a classic, versatile pattern that functions as a neutral and is frequently seen in fashion cycles. While trends rise and fall, leopard print, to me, seems timeless.
A few fun facts:
-Leopard print was worn by kings and queens as a form of power and status.
-Leopard print, in the 1970’s, was adopted by men and woman in the for of spandex body suits.
In the end, I feel this is an everlasting pattern that shows confidence and can make any look more fun.
