Sewing your own clothing can be very beneficial for people who can sew, but many people don’t just have this trade lying around. Sewing takes a lot of practice and time, and a lot of people do not have enough time to sew their own clothing on a daily basis.
Creating your own articles of clothing can definitely be very beneficial if you know how. Rather then spending pounds of money on outfits for yourself and maybe even others, you can hand create your pieces. While this could cost less you have to be careful to not waste material or the cost would build up.
Buying supplies for sewing can be kind of expensive; a sewing machine being close to $300 for a basic one and having to buy all the thread, scissors, measuring tape, and needles for every color and style you want.
Although that may seem like a lot, buying your own clothing from the mall can often be more than all of that combined! Sometimes when I go to the mall I can’t find anything I like that isn’t crazy expensive, and sewing my own clothing would help me avoid this issue.
If I sewed my own clothing I could make sure everything was exactly the way I wanted it and the exact color, style, and shape. You can also start your own hobby or even small business with this!
But sewing is not easy and it’s a skill that takes much time. While in some senses sewing your own clothing seems better then purchasing the articles of clothing individually from stores, it isn’t as easy as it may sound.
Sewing is very time consuming and also frustrating. You could spend all this time creating a piece of clothing just for it to turn out the exact opposite of what you wanted in the first. That is very frustrating
Frustration can come from projects failing, fitting issues, and fabric problems. Having all this negative occurrences happen to your projects can cause you to ruin material and lose a large portion of the money you’re putting in.
While the thought of getting exactly what you want for a lower price sounds great, it isn’t very realistic that that would happen. I am going to stick to buying clothing that is already made and not attempt to create my own.
If you are good at sewing, it might be fun for you to make a few pieces of clothing for yourself over time. I would not say it’s worth it to fully learn to sew just to attempt to save some money or design your own clothing.
